NOTE: Direct Short Service Course and Short Service Combatant course are both Short Period Training for Officers of the Military, Normally not more than 1 Year of Training.

What Is The Difference Between Difference Between DSSC And SSC In Nigerian Army

  1. Direct Short Service Course is Mainly for those Who came out of higher Institution with a career that they will like to further in The military Like Medicine, Engineer, Finance, Education, and some other related course while Short Service Combatant commission is for those who wish to be combatant. They are trained for action in the field just like (RC) Regular Cadets.
  2. SSC get deployed to combat corps (departments) such as artillery, armour, infantry, ordinance etc while DSSC get deployed to non-combat corps like finance, education, medical etc.
  3. SSC on completion of officer cadet training are commissioned as 2nd Lt (1 star) while DSSC are commissioned as Lt (2 stars)
  4. SSC you have to compete for appointment witH regular commission offer (remember this are young men that spent 5 yr in nda. There is a general dislike of DSSC/SSC commission offers by them.
  5. You don’t have age on your side since you probably graduated from university/polytechnic above 25yr of age. Age Plays another roll in this two Different Courses, Those for SSC are Younger than The DSSC,
    Age is always Stated While Applying for both.If you check, You will see that there is A difference between the Age Limits for Both.
  6. Note that there are still some Rank that DSSC and SSC can’t reach as an Officer except converted to Regular.
